This
is the use of computer simulation for the design, testing
and programming of automation systems. This technology
has been around for many years but it is only with
recent
advances in computer technology that it has really
become an important tool. The interfaces to CAD and
the speed
with which alternative strategies can be tried allows
far better system designs to be achieved in a fraction
of the time previously taken. We have been granted
permission
to reproduce a recent report on the benefits from the
use of these systems here.
