| Automated
production welding for a modest capital outlay
and on short lead time is available from Motoman
Robotics (UK), which has launched a new, standard
welding cell at the lower end of its ArcSystem
range. Called Batchweld, the system occupies just
2.2 by 3.2 metres of factory space.
It
uses Motoman's UP6 articulated arm robot, which
features a flexible conduit that routes all services
from the base to the upper arm, eliminating trailing
hoses and cables. Direct drive on all axes assures
speed, precision and reliability, positioning
accuracy being ± 0.08 mm.
Included
as standard is a twin-position turntable capable
of supporting workpieces weighing up to 100 kg
at either end. Manually indexed, it allows the
next part to be fixtured while the previous part
is being welded, minimising idle time and so maximising
production output.
Fully
enclosed, sheet metal safety guarding is provided
complete with roof, glare protection, safety interlocked
service door and internal lighting. The package
also comprises welding equipment, a torch cleaning
unit, and the Motoman XRC controller. Programming
is by the teach-in method.
The
entire cell is available off-the-shelf and can
be transported easily on a lorry and erected in
a couple of days, compared with up to 10 days
needed for building a bespoke system. All equipment
rests on a base and can be relocated easily within
a factory using a large lift truck.
